NaNoWriMo Day 10 – Are you dreaming yet?

‘Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again.’

C.S. Lewis

I had a hard day yesterday in that I faced a huge mental block every time I sat down to write. So I gave up on writing, and decided to plan my week ahead instead. That didn’t work either, as I found myself ‘over-thinking’ my plot, and checking my scenarios ad nauseum for consistency errors. Obviously, it’s essential to get your facts straight, and your story believable, but it was killing my creativity, and my forward motion.

I still felt that block when I sat down to write today. On top of that, I had the angst over not having written anything yesterday. But I’m learning that, by writing through the tough times, my brain throws up answers I never expected. Today, I actually started to enjoy this whole process for perhaps the first time!

Over to you. How are you doing with your writing/other projects this month?

Thanks for reading x

  1. I’m in a similar situation, in that the first chunk of writing went wonderfully fast, and I think that was due to me thinking ahead before NaNo started. But now I’m past the well-thought-out scenes, and it’s slower going. But I think dreaming helps. As does simply writing down possible scenes. Best wishes on your writing!
